    < Back Previous Next Secretary Shadow Needed Marie Coleman secretary@herndonband.org Board The Secretary shall keep the records and minutes of all Board, Executive Committee, Annual and Special Meetings and be responsible for correspondence. He/she shall provide the minutes from the immediate past meeting within ten (10) days of such meeting. He/she shall keep a current copy of the bylaws on hand for reference at all meetings. The Secretary shall maintain a complete list of voting and non-voting members of the HHSBPA, including name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. The Secretary shall record and maintain an inventory of all equipment owned by the HHSBPA through purchase or donation, and may establish a committee to assist in the accurate documentation of such inventory and the maintenance of current inventory records. The Secretary shall be responsible for coordinating the reservation of facilities for use by the HHSBPA with Herndon High School. The Secretary may assist the Band Director with various awards and gifts. Previous Next

    < Back Previous Next Hospitality /Snacks Chair ​ Amber Gilson hospitality@herndonband.org Board The Hospitality Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing food events for the Herndon High School Band. It does not include concessions. Works with the volunteer coordinator to obtain volunteers for events. Events include: Pool party and Barbeque August Showcase of Bands September Homecoming Barbeque October Winter Concert Reception December All District Band rotates every few years (last hosted Feb. 2012) Navy Band Refreshments April End of Year Banquet Other Responsibilities Include: Attend monthly Band Board Meetings. Solicit food donations from local vendors and band families Compose flyers, email blasts, etc. Purchase food and supplies Submit receipts to the Treasurer for reimbursement of purchased supplies Maintain inventory of Hospitality supplies Update event procedures for the Hospitality Book Clear communication with the Band Director, Board of Directors, Fundraising Chairperson, various Chairs, Yahoo and Charms Group Managers, and parents is necessary. Communication is through phone contact, personal emails, and written band blasts. Sign Up Genius is used as a means of organizing volunteers via the web. Volunteer Coordinator is an ongoing job throughout the school year and summer months. Plans, procures and sells food for Showcase (and possibly other assigned events). A detailed notebook with information from prior years is available, along with expert advice from our past concessions chairs. All volunteers for the day of the event are provided by the volunteer coordinator. This job can be shared with a co-chair. Previous Next

    < Back Chris Cunningham Jazz Band, Brass Tech Mr. Cunningham is a full time music teacher at Herndon High School. He began working with The Pride while teaching at several feeder elementary schools, and soon became a full time band director at Herndon HS. He created the guitar program here at Herndon, and now teaches five classes of guitar full time.     < Back Kelly Spann Color Guard Ms Spann has been involved with color guard for 8 years and it has always been a dream of hers to teach. She is a graduate of Morris Hills High School (USSBA 1 Open Champions, 1999, USSBA 2 Open Champions, 2000, MAIN Scholastic AA Champions, 1999) in Rockaway, NJ and Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA. In 2010, Miss Spann was the assistant color guard instructor at Battlefield High School. She currently works outside the education field at an international association as a meeting planner.   • Wind Ensemble | Herndon High School Band

    < Back Wind Ensemble The Herndon High School Wind Ensemble is composed of the most advanced student-musicians and is open by audition only. It includes members from all four classes at Herndon High, meeting for one period daily and usually one evening per week during the concert season. The Wind Ensemble’s achievements over the past several decades have been most noteworthy. Beginning in 1978 with a Grand Championship in Florida, the band has continued to excel on the competitive stage, have won over 38 First Place or Grand Championship awards. Among its highlights are twice retiring the Governor’s Cup at the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (a six year participation involving more than 200 concert bands from every state in the nation), many Gold Medal awards, and outstanding memories of superb music performances. In 1991, the Herndon Wind Ensemble was the only band selected for the Sudler Flag of Honor . This award, endowed by Louis and Virginia Sudler and sponsored by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, was established as a means of honoring the nation’s finest high school concert band programs. Through a rigorous selection process involving a seven year commitment, only 36 high school bands have been selected since its inception. The Wind Ensemble consistently achieves “Virginia Honor Band” recognition and receives superior ratings at all-district band festivals. They have been officially recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Fairfax County, and the Town of Herndon for their music excellence Previous Next

(Webmaster, Graphic Designer, Writer/Promotions) Website - update regularly (with Webmaster) PR - Write and submit articles to local newspapers. (with Writer & Promotions) Community calendar updates - Update Facebook, Patch, Connection, and Times on upcoming events. Reach out to advertise events in the HHS weekly ‘News You Choose’ emails Programs - Create & update/produce programs for 5 concerts with the help of Graphic Designer Showcase programs - * Develop program for Showcase Competition - includes schedule, ads (provided by community as well as design basic ads from parents) and other information related to the event * Invite dignitaries, reach out to the community. *Email VIP passes * Advertise and place signs around the neighborhood and local schools. * Contact schools in the pyramid to spread the word. * Print and design Signs (parking, schedules, directions) Contact person for the Professional Photographer for Marching Band photos since Communications uses the photos the most in marketing materials.
